Lord Vishnu is one of the Trinity ( Tridev) along with Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva and is the preserver of the universe. Vishnu means "one who is everything and inside everything" is usually depicted as having a dark, or pale blue complexion and having four arms.

He holds a Padma (lotus flower) in his lower left hand, Kaumodaki Gada (mace) in his lower right hand, Panchajanya shankha (conch) in his upper left hand, and the Sudarshana Chakra (discus) in his upper right hand.

A traditional depiction is Vishnu reclining on the coils of the serpent Shesha, accompanied by his consort Lakshmi. Lord Vishnu is considered the Supreme Being who created the universe in Vaishnavism.

In Vaishnavism, Vishnu is identical to the formless metaphysical concept called Brahman, the supreme, the Svayam Bhagavan, who takes various avatars as "the preserver, protector" whenever the world is threatened with evil, chaos, and destructive forces.

In rig Veda, he is the one who separates heaven and earth and helps Indra in killing Vrta and he is the One who along with Indra produces the Sun. Atharvaveda and Upanishadic texts, Vishnu is equivalent to Prajapati, both are described as the protector and preparer of the womb.
Lord Vishnu is referred Trivikrama in Rigveda who with his three steps covered the three worlds. His first step covers the earth, with the second the ether, and the third entire heaven. This story is associated with his Vamana Avatar.

As per Major Puranas and Vaisvanism Lord Vishnu is out of the circle of death and birth he is the one who can’t die or can’t be born. He was there when there were nothingness and darkness and he is the one who has created the universe and he is the one who preserves the lives in-universe.
