Lasuni Bathua Chana Dal Masala is an extremely easy to make, delicious winter special recipe made with bathua(white goosefoot)leaves,chana dal(split Bengal gram)to which a flavourful tempering of roasted garlic is added.
This healthy and tasty Lasuni Bathua Chana Dal Masala is best enjoyed with any Indian flatbread or hot rice.
Ingredients
For pressure cooking chana dal
Chana dal(Split Bengal gram)-1/4 cup
Water-1 cup
Salt-1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder-a pinch
For Masala
Ginger-1/2 inch
Garlic cloves-8
Green chilli-2
Oil-1 tbsp
Cumin seeds-1 tsp
Bay leaf-1
Asafoetida powder-1/4 tsp
Dry red chilli-1
Chopped onion-1/2 cup
Chopped tomato-1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Hot water-1/4 cup
Bathua leaves-1 bowl
Boiled chana dal-1 cup
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Coriander powder-1 tbsp
Kashmiri red chilli powder-1 tsp
Coriander leaves-a handful
Garam masala powder-1 tsp
Lasuni Tadka
Ghee-1 tsp
Garlic slices-1 tbsp
Dry red chilli-1
Method
Wash and soak chana dal in hot water for 30 min.Strain dal and add to a pressure cooker.
Add water,salt, turmeric powder and close cooker.Pressure cook for only 2 whistles.
Separate bathua leaves from the stalk,wash them well in water,chop them roughly.
Coarsely grind ginger,garlic and green chillies.
Heat oil,add cumin seeds,bay leaf, asafoetida powder,dry red chilli and saute for few seconds.
Add chopped onion and saute till light golden brown.Add tomato,salt and saute for 1 min.Add hot water,cover and cook for 2 min till soft.
Add chopped bathua leaves and saute for 1 min.Cover and cook for 1 min till soft.
Add boiled chana dal along with the water, turmeric powder, coriander powder, Kashmiri red chilli powder and mix well.Mash slightly and cook for 2 min.
Put off flame,

add fresh coriander leaves and garam masala powder.Mix and transfer to a serving bowl.
Lasuni Tadka
Heat ghee,add garlic slices,dry red chilli and saute till golden brown.Pour tadka over Bathua Chana Dal Masala and enjoy with roti,puri, paratha or hot rice.
