Chasing a train to the grain elevator spur and watching railroad switching. This is the Norfolk Southern Peavine Line in Ohio that is operated by the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad. We start at the Sardinia railroad wye in Sardinia, Ohio. The railroad crossings have been rebuilt and the wye is still being worked on. This is where the locomotive maintenance is performed for the line. This are is off limits to railfans.
I filmed both sides of the trains as I chased it down the east end of the line. The further you travel east the least amount of action the line gets. The last few miles past the quarry are only used for railcar storage.
Check out the awesome switching work in Winchester. You can see how tracks are switched and listen to the cars while they are moved back and forth on a slight grade. This is the same grade that I recently filmed a heavy rock train going over with 4 locomotives.
We also get to see a track warrant passed up to the engineer in Seaman, Ohio. The signals on this line were deactivated in 2005 so the line is divided into blocks requiring track warrants for trains to enter. Sometimes a rock train will be in the process of being unloaded while another train is switching in the Afton area and at the same time another rock train could be moving across the line.
I also caught the train going through Lawshe and Peebles, Ohio. Peebles is the last town that the train passes before going to the end of active track. The train in this video only went a few miles past me in Peebles. It stops at the quarry in Plum Run for loading.
