Описание: The organists at Temple Square are thrilled to present the final installment in this year’s 2023 Organ Virtuoso Series on October 13, 2023. The Tabernacle’s own organist Brian Mathias will be this year’s final performance.

Prior to his appointment as a Tabernacle organist in January 2018, Dr. Brian Mathias served as an adjunct faculty member at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. He also served as associate organist at Country Club Christian Church in Kansas City, Missouri.

Among Dr. Mathias’s recent solo performances are recitals at the Salt Lake Tabernacle and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Conference Center (Salt Lake City, Utah); the Cathedral of the Madeleine (Salt Lake City, Utah); Washington National Cathedral (Washington, DC); BYU–Idaho (Rexburg, Idaho); and Texas A&M International University (Laredo, Texas). He has competed on the international stage in a number of prestigious international organ competitions, including the 2011 and 2014 Canadian International Organ Competitions and the 2010 Grand Prix de Chartres international organ competition.

Dr. Mathias earned a doctor of musical arts degree at the University of Kansas, where he studied organ with James Higdon and carillon with Elizabeth Berghout. He received bachelor of music and master of music degrees from Brigham Young University, studying organ with Don Cook and Douglas Bush and carillon with Don Cook.

Few organs anywhere have such a storied history as the Tabernacle organ on historic Temple Square. This world-renowned pipe organ with five manuals (keyboards) and 206 ranks of organ pipes is among the world’s largest instruments—and one of the most heralded. Its famous golden pipes, made of wood staves fashioned from Utah timber, still add to the sound of the famous instrument even today.
