Tonight I read from my draft prose work Icarus in Reverse — a hybrid text combining research, autoethnography, and creative nonfiction.
This reading explores:
– Black Quantum Futurism
– Black aesthetic philosophy
– Nonlinear and cyclical temporalities
– The Black Atlantic
– Migration and precarity
– Grief, addiction, and survival
– Motherhood as resistance
– Afrofuturity as lived practice
Black Quantum Futurism, founded by Moor Mother and Rasheedah Phillips, challenges linear conceptions of time and space by centering African diasporic experience, speculative thought, and quantum theory.
In this piece, I move between:
– The historical voice of Olaudah Equiano
– Contemporary migrant housing precarity in Berlin
– The metaphor of Icarus
– The symbolic presence of Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender
– Black maternal ritual as protection and aesthetic intervention
