Tucked quietly away near Bourton-on-the-Water in Gloucestershire, Wyck Rissington is one of those rare Cotswolds villages that still feels untouched — no crowds, no coach tours, no traffic… just birdsong, honey-coloured stone cottages and open green space.

The heart of Wyck Rissington is its long, tree-lined village green — one of the prettiest in the North Cotswolds.

On both sides, you’ll find rows of beautiful traditional Cotswold stone houses, many dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Their warm limestone walls glow in the sunlight, and the whole scene feels wonderfully timeless.

It’s the kind of place where you naturally slow down.

Right in the centre of the village sits a picture-perfect duck pond, especially lovely in early spring.

Snowdrops scatter the grass, early daffodils begin to bloom, and the reflection of those classic Cotswolds cottages shimmers in the water. It’s peaceful, it’s calming — and honestly, it feels miles away from the busy tourist spots nearby.

At one end of the green stands the beautiful Church of St Laurence, a Grade I listed building dating back to the 12th century.

In the early 1890s, a young Gustav Holst, just 17 years old, served here as the church organist. The very same organ is still in use today — a wonderful link between this peaceful village and one of Britain’s most celebrated composers.
