Everyone talks about it.
Few actually do it right.

→ “I hired my kid to clean the office.”
→ “I hired my kid to rake the leaves.”
→ “I hired my kid to shred paper.”

Let’s be real…

Nobody’s raking leaves in your law firm.
Nobody’s shredding $10,000 worth of paper.
And office cleaning is not a $15,000/year job.

💡 Here’s the truth:

Hiring your kids can be one of the best tax strategies out there.

But only if the work is:
• Ordinary
• Necessary
• Reasonably paid
• Truly for the business (not your personal house chores)

So what does that look like?

✅ Social media & marketing – holding the camera, editing videos, creating content.

✅ Ecommerce & retail – labeling boxes, packaging, moving inventory.

✅ Real business functions that actually save you from paying someone else.

Not:

❌ Paying your 7-year-old $12,000 to shred 3 papers a year.

❌ Landscaping your backyard and calling it “business property maintenance.”

The IRS doesn’t care that it’s “family.”
They care if it’s real work for real pay.

So yes—you can (and should) hire your kids.

But do it smart.
Do it right.
And keep the receipts to prove it.

Otherwise… you’re not saving on taxes.
You’re just asking for an audit. 😉

(And most importantly make sure to issue a W2!) as this will be one of the first things an IRS auditor will ask for. No W2 to them means not an employee…..
