Here you can see the condition of the stearing bearings.
Consulting the shop manual I find a design fault and a bad maintenance instruction. First, on a heavy bike like this using ball bearings in my book is a design fault. They can't take the load. Second, when installing the bearings the manual says to pre-tension them with a torque wrench. Failure is guaranteed, as we can see here.
For now, I have loosened them, so the stearing moves smoothly again, but the bearings are toast, really.
Don't get me wrong: I love riding this bike. But after 3 years we have the 3rd electrical fault, one of which stopped the bike dead. The battery also had to be replaced, with a LiFePO4, which should last a lot longer and weighs a lot less.
