Why does my Mac use so much RAM? If you've ever looked into Activity Monitor on your Mac, you might've noticed that even a couple of applications can eat up a huge chunk of the memory available on your computer.

Some users get concerned about this thinking that if a few applications eat up 90% of their memory, then their computer must be struggling when more taxing processes are added to the mix. But that's not the case. Your Mac is designed to utilize all the available RAM at all times. Free RAM is wasted RAM, so it's better to put it in use. Your Mac will automatically delegate available memory to the applications that need it, so all the available memory is always efficiently spread across the processes that are currently running.

Long story short - Yes, your Mac will use a boatload of RAM even when you don't have that many applications running, and that's a good thing. You have that memory built into your computer so you might as well use it all, at all times.
