CULTIVATE: COVID-19 retrospective study to assess PT treatment in the ICU for patients with ARF

Physical therapists play an important role in treating critically ill patients in intensive care units (ICUs), including those with COVID. However, little is known about if—or how much--physical therapy was administered to patients with COVID during the 2020 pandemic. In this retrospective, multisite study including 3695 records of patients with COVID admitted to ICU from March 2020 – May 2021, we found considerable variability across sites in the percentage of patients who received PT, as well as the number of PT visits and discharge dispositions. This study provides valuable insight about physical therapy treatment for patients with COVID admitted to ICU across the United States.
