Here are some considerations to help you throughout your application adventures. If you have other comments or questions, let us know in the comments or send us a message!

What is AACPMAS?
It stands for the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine Application Services. This is the centralized application that you will use to apply to any of the nine schools across the country.

CREATE A SCHOOL LIST
You do not have to apply to all nine schools. Do your research to see what schools are the best fit for you. Some considerations: class size, location, board pass rates, demographics, clinical experience, academic support, resources, scholarships, etc.

PREREQUISITE COURSES
Make sure you have completed all of the required courses for each school you are applying to.

TRANSCRIPTS
You will be requesting official transcripts from every college institution that you have attended. Make sure to request these as soon as you can because it takes time for AACPMAS to receive them. Request a copy for yourself, as well! Use this when entering in your coursework in the application portal. This will help you avoid any discrepancies between unofficial/official transcripts because everything will be identical to what the application service will receive, so you can have a smoother verification process.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
Aim to have at least 3 letters of recommendation:
1 should be from a podiatric physician (although not required for some schools, it is highly recommended). Reach out to your letter writers early and allow them at least 3 weeks to complete it. Request letters through Interfolio or VirtualEvals (check to see if your school has a preference to decide which one to use).

PERSONAL STATEMENT
The earlier you start, the better! Check out our previous post for more information about getting ready.

EXPERIENCES
Create a list of activities, leadership experiences, research, honors, awards, internship programs and descriptions of each with dates, a contact person, and average hours. This is helpful when fill out the Activities portion of the application.

TAKE THE MCAT
You can apply you schools prior to having your MCAT score, but make sure that you will have your score BEFORE the deadline. For example, you can submit your application in September, take your MCAT in January and have you score by February. The deadline for MCAT scores is as early as May or some schools and June for others.
