The three presidency banks in India were the Bank of Bengal, Bank of Bombay, and Bank of Madras, established during British rule. These banks were merged in 1921 to form the Imperial Bank of India, which was later renamed the State Bank of India in 1955. The presidency banks laid the foundation for modern banking in India before being amalgamated into a single entity.
