Tip 1 | Menu Planning
• Plan your meals - especially dinner - by creating a food rota/planner.
• Plan your weekly menu including breakfast, lunch and dinner to save yourself from the temptation of a takeaway.
• Batch cook larger quantities so you can freeze healthy meals and have them ready for the weeks ahead. This also reduces food waste and helps keep costs low.
Tip 2 | Kitchen Organisation
• Use similar style stackable food safe containers, always label with a description and date.
• Make sure when you open your fridge, freezer or cupboards that you can see everything, this helps you to see everything and allows you to use spices & herbs to add into what you’re cooking, this is important for healthy eating.
Tip 3 | Fresh Herbs
• Fresh herbs greatly enhance the flavour of food & drinks.
• Fresh herbs are also really good for you, and lots of herbs have medicinal uses.
• Keep herbs fresh by wrapping in a damp cloth and keeping in the fridge
• Preserve them for longer by making herbs into pesto to use for quick dishes or freeze.
Tip 4 | Homemade Soup
• Use up vegetables and create a homemade soup, it’s the perfect perfect way to get your five a day and it’s brilliant for picky eaters.
• Homemade soup can be eaten as a starter, lunch or healthy snack.
• To jazz up your soup, add some olive or rape seed oil or some butter and blitz until silky smooth and use as a vegetable puree for more or a dinner party style dinner, great with meat or fish.
• Soup also freezes well so if there’s any left over, get it tubed up, labelled and in the freezer.
Tip 5 | Fresh Fruit
• Fresh fruit is fantastic and at its at its peak when in season, to make the most of it slice up bananas and freeze in tubs so you can use to make healthy ice creams blended with yoghurt, or to drop into healthy smoothies. By freezing fresh fruit, it preserves the flavour and the extends the shelf life allowing you to use when you need.
