Struggling to maintain your peace during the holidays? Let's change that. Here’s how to hold firm to your boundaries:
No Mediator: 'I'm sorry, but I can't play the mediator this year. If you're going to argue, kindly take it outside and work it out yourselves.'
Emotional Safety: 'Holidays can be emotionally charged for me around my family. When I feel strong enough to protect you, myself, and the relationship that is growing between us, I will invite you to come with me.'
Healthy Eating: 'I'm working on my relationship with food. Eating more than I need makes me feel sick, and I'm not doing it this year.'
Love Life Privacy: 'My love life is private and not up for discussion. I'll let you know when things get serious.'
Appearance Comments Off-Limits: 'Comments about my physical appearance are off limits this year. Even compliments make me feel self-conscious.'
Consent for Children: 'My child is learning about consent and comfortable touch. Please ask if they want to be hugged or kissed first.'
Family Time: 'This year, we decided to stay home and spend quality time as a family. We will FaceTime after breakfast.'
