12:07 - An instrumental is a song with no vocals, but the vocals can be the melody of the song and it can end up sounding like a rhythm track. You can add hints of melody - "melody light" so your instrumental feels more natural.
14:15 - Instrumental cues typically do not have a long intro - often no intro at all.
17:47 - Editors are looking for music that moves a scene forward, adds emotion, mood or can create a mood.
18:22 - Orchestral cues would typically build - a section in repeat mode with subtle changes like adding instruments to move the scene forward.
33:23 - Different genres require different approaches.
48:11 - If you see a TAXI Music listing you're interested in, make sure to read it all the way through and listen to the references, and default to the common denominator.
49:09 - Where should you start? What are the most used genres? - a good rule of thumb is to start where you are comfortable and build your skills as you go. Start with what comes naturally.
52:47 - Hip-Hop is one of the most frequently requested genres. Watch reality shows, they use tons of Hip-Hop! Take notes as you watch, you will see and hear common threads.
59:10 - When you create a piece of music, mood, feelings, and emotions are really REALLY important!
1:02:08 - Ask yourself what kind of scene your piece would be used for and think about the emotion.
1:03:43 - Editors will look at the waveform of a song - is it dynamic? Does it move forward? Does it have edit points?
1:05:29 - Titles are important! Editors can tell what they will hear by the title.
1:15:25 - A button ending is a period, and a stinger ending is an exclamation point.
1:25:38 - How perfect do your tracks/cues need to be?
