Former union minister Arun Shourie has alleged that Alok Verma, “an independent officer”, was removed as CBI director because of his refusal to buckle under pressure. “The purpose of removing Alok Verma is quite clear,” he added.
Alok Verma and special director Rakesh Asthana have been asked to go on leave after an unprecedented squabble between the two top officers engulfed India’s premier investigative agency. Both have accused each other of bribery and misconduct, thrusting the CBI into deep tumult.
