President of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA), Crystal Ashe, accompanied by members of the National Executive, is asking Minister of Finance Davendranath Tancoo for clear timelines on the payment of new salaries and back pay for members of the teaching service.
Speaking to reporters after delivering the letter to the Ministry of Finance offices at the Eric Williams Financial Complex on Monday morning, Mr. Ashe said he is hoping for clear communication between the Ministry and the union on the issues outlined in the correspondence.
"We are asking the Minister of Finance today to reach out to TTUTA. Reach out to any member of TTUTA. Reach out to us via email. Reach out to the President, Crystal Ashe. Let us know. Listen, sir, I can organise money for your membership by so and so date. If you're having some difficulties, at least let us know."
The TTUTA President assured that the union will not pursue industrial action and is hoping to receive a response from the Ministry within the next week.
TTT News reached out to Minister Tancoo for a response on this matter. Minister Tancoo said he had not yet seen the letter and was unable to comment at this time.
