After 10 years searching for the fertile areas of the North Atlantic around Ireland, I eventually figured out where the nutrient-rich waters are.
This is one of the early scenes I encountered, and I’m told it was the first time Minke whales had been seen feeding like this at depth and without coralling of prey, which would often be carried out by common dolphins.
Up to 10 Minke whales lunged all around me for 30 minutes, feeding on sprat, it was a dreamy, otherworldly scene to witness, a great privilege.
