(30 Aug 2017) North Korean state television broadcast the news of the country's latest missile launch on Wednesday, more than 24 hours after the projectile flew over Japan and drew international condemnation.
Among the crowd milling outside Pyongyang's main railway station on Wednesday, some people stopped to watch the broadcast on a large screen TV.
In contrast to the alarm expressed by neighbouring countries, North Koreans when talking publicly stuck to the official line that the missile launch was a bold move to hold off the prospect of American aggression.
And there was no sympathy expressed for the people of Japan, even though Tuesday's missile flew over them.
It was the first time since 2009 that North Korea had fired a projectile over Japan.
North Koreans remember 29 August, the day of this latest missile launch, as the date in 1910 when Japan's annexation of Korea was formally announced.
That point was mentioned in the official North Korean state media account of the launch.
Since the end of Japan's occupation of Korea, Tokyo has reopened diplomatic relations with Seoul, but not Pyongyang.
In its schools, television, films and newspapers, North Korea portrays Japan and America as its "sworn enemies".
