Badrinath Temple is one of the holiest and most revered shrines in Hinduism, nestled in the majestic Garhwal Himalayas in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, worshipped here as Badrinarayan, and holds immense religious significance as part of the Char Dham and Chhota Char Dham Yatra.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu meditated at this place for thousands of years under a Badri tree. To protect him from the harsh weather, Goddess Lakshmi took the form of the tree and provided shelter. Deeply moved, Vishnu named the place Badri-nath — meaning "Lord of the Badri tree".
Badrinath temple was established in the 8th century by Adi Shankaracharya, who is credited with reviving Hinduism and organizing the Char Dham pilgrimage. He discovered the idol of Badrinarayan in the Alaknanda River and enshrined it in a cave near Tapt Kund, which later became the Badrinath Temple.
