This video shows how I serviced a 8 day Black Forest cuckoo clock sold in the US through the Welby Corporation.
The hands and chains are removed so the movement can be removed from the case.
The Pipes and Bellows are then removed.
I explain the difference between a 30 hour and an 8 day cuckoo clock movement.
The Pendulum Leader can now be removed from the movement.
The little bird is removed from the case and cleaned with a q-tip and lighter fluid (naphtha).
Lighter fluid is also used to remove excess powder and residue from over the movement.
The back plate is removed, and the hammer, low note and the high note levers are also removed.
The movement is cleaned in the ultrasonic cleaner, then the bushings in both the plates are peggout out.
Some fine steel wool is used to remove some surface rust from some of the wheels.
The pivots are checked for slop and End Play.
Some of the other steel levers are cleaned with steel wool to remove surface rust.
A Dremel tool is used to remove rust from the hooks and stoppers from the chains.
I replace a broken spring on the Hammer Lever and show you how iI made it.
The movement is reassembled.
Some levers require new wires to hold them in place.
The Rack and Snail are fitted and tested, because the Rack Stop Lever could not drop down to stop the movement, because one of the teeth on the Rack was caufgt on the Gathering Pallet.
The movement was reinstalled into the case and the chains reattached.
The video runs for 2:04 hours.
