Most people who do martial arts are practicing in a way that is ineffective at best, and fraudulent at worst. That means hundreds of millions of people globally. An enormous claim that deserves serious depth, and I've done the legwork to learn, organize, and explain this new approach to you. BJJ is one of the better martial arts, if not the best, and a large part of this comes from our heavy emphasis on real sparring, but we can do much better. I aim to prove that with this documentary that I moved across the country for and spent nearly 2 years working on, reading and training more every day.
Check out my course for a comprehensive look at the Ecological Dynamics Approach to BJJ here, where you can learn BJJ quickly and effectively through this new lens. https://bren-veziroglu-2fc7.mykajabi....

If you want to be the best teacher you can be, there’s no getting around doing a lot of reading on this new approach. Start with Ian Renshaws recent review, then you have Kelso’s papers on self organization and meta-stability. Runeson’s paper on Smart perceptual mechanisms, The direct learning paper, Phagen’s paper on affordance based control, These classics will help you understand affordances, and this badass crew’s paper on the ecological approach to MMA is excellent. I did my literature review specifically on the Ecological approach to BJJ modeled after their paper, so Jiu-jitsu coaches should start with that when it gets published.
For Books, Robb Gray’s Becoming an ecological coach is an excellent start, then his other two, How we learn to move, and learning to optimize movement. Dynamics of Skill acquisition is an overall favorite with excellent references. Kelso’s book Dynamic patterns, and Blau and Wagman’s Intro to Eco psych are both masterpieces that are required reading for you to understand what’s going on. The Constraints led approach, and Non linear pedagogy, are very good as well. Unfortunately, you’re going to need some top notch math if you want to actually understand how self organization and non-linearity work, but non-linear Dynamics by strogatz is another masterpiece that will help the most dedicated grind their way through it. Chaos by Gleick and Synch by strogatz are also fascinating pop science books about non linear dynamics that are relatively easy to get through. Of course, we can’t forget the book that started it all, the ecological approach to visual perception from Gibson.
