Every day, nearly 2 billion people around the world cook their food using solid fuels like wood and charcoal, silently fueling deforestation. It takes ten times more wood to produce one unit of traditional charcoal. But in Kenya’s Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project, innovation is flipping that equation.
Through the sale of #CarbonCredits, Wildlife Works is helping communities create sustainable options for daily living. The project’s eco-charcoal factory produces cleaner, more efficient fuel, made entirely from pruned branches instead of felled trees.
This community-led initiative proves that it’s possible to cook your food without cooking the planet.
🌿 Impact Highlights:
9 full-time local staff produce about 1,000 eco-charcoal briquettes every month.
Zero deforestation: no trees are cut down, only pruned.
Thousands of pounds of eco-charcoal produced, fueling homes and jobs.
Supported through carbon credit sales under the Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project.
This #WorldFoodDay, we celebrate how simple innovations, like rethinking what fuels our meals, can spark powerful #ClimateAction.
💚 Watch how sustainable cooking, powered by carbon credits, is transforming lives and protecting Kenya’s forests.
