In this video, I’m sharing how I spent a quiet and relaxing New Year’s Day in Japan, 2026.

On January 1st, instead of a busy celebration,
I welcomed the new year slowly by visiting a shrine for Hatsumode and enjoying a calm day.

📍 Visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha at night
🍵 Warming up with a seasonal hot chai
🎐 Taking a slow walk through food stalls and night markets
⛩ Praying for health and happiness in the new year
🍔 Ending the day by taking home a wagyu burger and relaxing at home

New Year’s Day in Japan is very quiet, with many shops closed and fewer people on the streets.
I really love the contrast between the silent city and the lively atmosphere around the shrine.
