A Semi Transparent Industrial Facade System Made Possible by Danpalon Polycarbonate Panels

When project architect Eran Ziv took on the challenge of bringing the Reef 5 logistic Centre to life, he instinctively turned to Danpal, and our Danpalon polycarbonate panels, an integral part of a well-designed semi transparent industrial facade system. Eran’s vision was to breathe a breath of fresh air into the boring staid designs that are usually the hallmark of conventional industrial buildings.

The bright idea was to move away from the traditional reliance on regular polycarbonate panels to create skylights in the building’s roof. Rather Eran realized that he could create a wall of natural daylight, by employing a semi transparent facade system, designed and supplied by Danpal. This would result in a design concept that is fitting of the logistic centre of the future, a building that makes efficient use of natural light while elevating the corporate image of his client’s logistics company.

As the building started to take shape, it became clear that the new logistic centre, cut a modern contemporary silhouette against the skyline of “Emek Hefer” in Israel. The Danpalon panels supplied as part of a full semi transparent industrial facade system, allow controlled daylight to permeate the interior of the high industrial structure, where it is needed most. The performance aspect of the system can be seen and felt, as heat gain is limited to a third of what it would have been, for the traditional glazing option.

With our Danpal semi transparent facade system in place, the need for additional roof skylights was made redundant. This was great news for the project, as the last thing a logistic centre needs is a leaky roof or the maintenance issues that usually accompany a traditional skylight. Instead, our Danpalon polycarbonate panels create a fully weather-proof barrier that not only functions as a feature façade but also a dazzling light wall at night. This aesthetic component was certainly both a driving and motivating factor for Eran’s initial decision to design with a Danpal solution in mind.

The Reef 5 logistic centre now complete, stands as a testament to the architect’s vision, a vision of transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. A bold design move that eschewed old traditional ideas about industrial building design, in favour of a contemporary approach that fully integrates a semi transparent industrial façade system.
