Explosion and fire aboard 23m Pearl yacht Tomi in Mallorca

Описание: The 23.29-metre Pearl motor yacht Tomi caught fire and exploded while she was moored in the port of Calanova, Palma on 15 April 2024.

The catalyst of the accident was reportedly a failure or overheating of the auxiliary power in the flybridge yacht’s bow chamber. The suspected source of the overheating was a malfunction within Tomi’s bow thruster.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing an alarming explosion, induced by an overabundance of smoke building up inside the vessel, as dark clouds of smoke could be seen streaming out of her interior.
A team of Palma firefighters rushed to the scene shortly after in order to extinguish the fire. Staff at the port of Calanova transported the yacht to a safe location to avoid causing damage to other boats or marina visitors.

At the time of publishing, it is still unclear whether anyone was injured during the explosion.
