This videos goes over how I deep clean my hook on my APQS longarm quilting machines. If you have a different brand of longarm, please check with your manufacturer or you dealer before using WD-40 or compressed air on your machine. Both of these items are completely safe to use on APQS longarms, but may not be recommended by other manufacturers.
Keep all items away from the hook when it is moving. The hook rotates at a very high speed and can grab things, like a towel, and suck them into the hook. You will notice that my towel is not in my hand when the machine is running but is laying across my carriage. My WD-40 and my air are about 3 inches from my hook when I spray into it while it is spinning.
