Over the decades, the general opinion has been that these two are Moses and Elijah who have come back to this world as men - or even Enoch and Elijah Both the latter were taken up into heaven without death. Doubtless on the way up there was a change from mortality to immortality in some bodily form. This would have been types in a small way of the ascension of Jesus Christ as disclosed in Acts 1. As for Moses, his body was 'hidden by the Lord', our OT. It is apparent that he could never sufffer two deaths in 'his' mortal body. This would be a necessity were he to have had his previous body body buried, then brought up some how without the resurrection day in progress. When would be a debatable point. After this, he is given a body looking similar to that of all men for him to appear on the streets of Jerusalem. Neither of these views is feasible. As regards Elijah, Jesus said in effect that the lowest believer in Him in His New Testament household, is far greater. Herein lies a conundrum.
