The iconic Consolidated PBY Catalina entered US Navy
service in 1936. Over 3,000 PBYs were manufactured
during WW2 including the Canadian PBY-5A Canso. The
RAF, RCAF and other allied air forces used them in bomber,
anti-submarine, reconnaissance, transport and air-sea
rescue roles. Surplus civilian PBYs were used post war
as passenger, freighter, survey and fire-fighting aircraft.
These PlaneTags have been created from PBY-5A Serial#
Bu46590 manufactured for the US Navy during 1944 in
New Orleans. It saw USN service on patrol over the Atlantic
and the Pacific. It then served with the US Coast Guard
in Florida, Washington State and Alaska before being sold
surplus in 1952 and registered as N68756.
