This is a short video on earthing up in potato. Potato is an important cash crop throughout the world. Earthing up is keeping soil at base of potato plants. It is done to keep newly form tubers (potato) below soil. If tubers get exposed to sunlight, there will be chlorophyll formation on potato skin. These tubers are not safe for consumption. Such tubers contain more SOLANIN, an alkaloid, content than normal tubers. We always advise to avoid such tubers for consumption.

Generally earthing up is done twice. One at 21 days after planting and the second at 42-45 days after planting. Earthing up eases irrigation in potato field. Potato is one of the exhaustive crops and needs frequent irrigation and high doses of fertilizer. So, earthing up should be done at time as mentioned.
