Cathode Ray Tubes were once the particle accelerator we all had at home. This is a CRT from a projection TV being supply with too many volts with a stationary beam. Due to the current capacity of this high intensity beam tube quite a lot of heat can be generated at a spot.
Note: these screens have a concave internal surface compared to the convex shape of direct viewing screens. This is to do with the optical lens systems used to project the image.
The high voltage supply being used here produces both voltages and current well in excess of the normal TV power supply.
Really expected this CRT to implode when the crack appeared and stopped experimenting. Atmospheric pressure can collapse the tube if a crack occurs. This is one of the dangers in handling CRTs.
