Guest: Ellery Leery, Friends & Neighbors of Putnam Memorial State Park
An introduction to the history of Putnam Memorial State Park with guest Ellery Leery. The history of the area that is now the state park as one of three Revolutionary War encampments around Putnam during the winter of 1778-9 is described along with the history of the park itself, which was established as a park in 1887. Among the topics discussed is what remains from the Revolutionary War encampment (stone fireplaces) versus what was constructed afterwards (a stone obelisk as soon as the park was established, and other buildings).
