Archaeologists have used artificial intelligence to discover three hundred and three unknown geoglyphs near the famous Nazca Lines in Peru. These newly found figures, which date back to two hundred BCE, nearly double the number of known geoglyphs at this archaeological site, which is around two thousand years old.
The discovery was made by a team from the Japanese University of Yamagata's Nazca Institute, in collaboration with IBM Research. The new geoglyphs depict various images, including parrots, cats, monkeys, killer whales, and even decapitated heads. All of these figures are smaller in size compared to the vast geometric patterns that date from two hundred to seven hundred AD and cover more than four hundred square kilometers of the Nazca plateau.
