Silver Lake was originally installed as The Clipper in 1984 to provide downloading from the growing Silver Lake Village to Snow Park Village. Clipper was installed with a midstation where Tower 17 is. After Carpenter Express nearby was upgraded it was apparent Clipper needed to be upgraded. So in 1999, Clipper got replaced with a current Garaventa CTEC high-speed quad, installed with downloading in mind. I believe It also reused most of the old towers used from Clipper to where Tower 17 is since I can notice the Yan metal numbering below the cross arms. Despite Silver Lake's workhorse status, it gets utilized less than Carpenter and even Homestake since it is mainly used to shuttle foot traffic, or even beginners (with a beginner lift-ticket) although you can ski Trainer or McHenry from the top terminal, and take Homestake to access the terrain Carpenter serves. Silver Lake gets very high hours also since it operates year round for scenic rides and mountain biking unlike Carpenter which is 3 years older than it. Silver Lake is expected to last for a little longer since a replacement with a D-Line gondola in the works that'll eventually link up from Silver Lake Village to the East Village Gondola side at Park Peak. Silver Lake has one of the loudest motor sounds I think I've heard on a Stealth II.
