Sister Yao’s Char Koay Kak (Fried Rice Cake/Cubes 炒粿角) is one of the most famous street food stalls in Penang. Run by three sisters, the stall continues a family recipe inherited from their father, who first started selling Char Koay Kak in 1963.
This legendary Penang street food stall is well known for its wok-fried rice cubes with crispy edges, eggs, preserved radish, and fragrant soy sauce. Cooked over high heat, the dish develops a rich aroma that locals love.
Many people in Penang enjoy Char Koay Kak as a breakfast dish, and Sister Yao’s stall attracts a steady crowd every morning. They open early from 7 AM until around 12 PM, often selling out before closing time.
The stall has also been recognized with the Michelin Bib Gourmand award for three consecutive years, highlighting its reputation as one of the must-try street foods in Penang.
