Orienteering in the snow: Jægersborg Hegn, Denmark

We'ere in Jægersborg Hegn north of Copenhagen, Denmark and the event is "Molboløbet" - an annual series of 10 events which combines orienteering with quiz questions.

The main focus is on attracting new comers to the sport and out of the 3-400 participants many participate with their spouses, children or friends. Over the years this series of events has proven succesful in opening the sport of orienteering to outsiders.

Jægersborg Hegn is a flat, open forest with a fair amount of paths. But as snow is covering the ground the smaller paths disappear. Controls were placed pretty openly, so todays task became one of using the compass to stay on course.

As a lot of runners had been in the forest before me, there were a lot of footprints to follow - some leading to the controls - some leading me astray. I tried to stay clear of the most obvious tracks, but that wasn't always possible. Mostly it went fine, but I did go off course around control 9 and 12.

And yes - the start and Finish was in the really beautiful waiting hall of Skodsborg Station which was built in 1897. Unfortunately it's normally closed to the public.
