There has been a Surburban Railway System in Cork since the middle of the 19th Century it suffered line clousures in the 20th Century there was also a Tram Network in Cork - A horse tram service back in the 1870s & an electric tram system between 1998 & 19:31.

The Cork Surburban Railway System runs on 3 lines & has 10 stations there are new stations planned but this has not happened yet.

Cork Kent Little Island Glounthaune Fota Carrigaloe Rusbrooke & Cobh & Carrigtwohill & Midelton these are stations on the line.

The Midelton to Youghal Railway line was built by the Cork & Youghal Railway it opened in phases from November 1859 & in 1963 it closed to Regular Passenger services followed by the final Clousure & removal of the tracks from Midelton to Youghal in 1988. It is hoped to Reopen this section some day.

Services on this line are provided by Irish Rail 2600 Class DMUs they are used for short haul journeys around Cork Area & to Limerick Junction the odd time these units entered service in 1993 the first units were introduced that year & delivered they were built by Toyko Car Corporation in Japan & where the first modern DMUs to be purchased for the Network they were developed on the Dublin to Kildare arrow service.
