Private networks often include devices hidden behind routers or gateways — how does OneLayer provide visibility and control for those assets? | | by Liron Ben-Horin, VP Systems Engineering for #TeckNexus #PrivateNetwork Magazine.
In many of our deployments, a large portion of connected assets aren’t individual devices with embedded LTE modems — they’re cellular routers or gateways from vendors like Cisco, GE, 4RF, or Semtech that connect multiple downstream devices to the private network.
From the beginning, this presented a major challenge and opportunity for OneLayer. When we talk about visibility, we don’t stop at identifying the customer premises equipment (CPE) itself. It’s not enough to know how many routers or gateways are on the network — enterprises also want to know what’s behind them. Is it an automated guided vehicle (AGV)? A PLC? A laptop?
This level of insight is critical not only for operational awareness but also for authentication and security policy enforcement. For example, if a PLC with certain permissions is swapped out for a laptop, that new device shouldn’t inherit the same access privileges. Detecting those changes in real time is essential to maintaining network integrity.
That’s why OneLayer’s visibility extends beyond the router level. We enable enterprises to see what’s connected behind every CPE, correlate those assets to their intended roles, and make informed security and access-control decisions across the network.
