Hi again, welcome to our short video bytes on hot topics of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

When we are discussing the most effective approaches to supporting mental health in the workplace, we are often asked about EAP – or Employee Assistance Programs.

EAP programs provide an invaluable confidential support service to employees when they are experiencing a difficult time in their work or personal life. However, we believe that EAP is not enough to effectively manage the business and legal risk associated with mental health issues in the workplace. Unfortunately though, whilst this exposes business leaders to adverse claims, EAP is where many organisations stop.

What we encourage is for workplaces go beyond EAP. We advocate a comprehensive and holistic approach. Business leaders, people managers, and employees need the knowledge, tools, and skills to effectively manage mental health issues through proactive and preventative approaches. This is critical for businesses to successfully mitigate the health and safety and legal risk to organisations -and to keep employees productive and engaged before mental health challenges escalate.

To learn more about this topic or how our mental health eLearning courses can compliment your EAP services, visit our website at thementalhealthproject.cm.au and read our article “The imperative of providing workplace mental health support services” .
