Rowan Bailey from Imperial College London has been using Asynt Illumin8 photoreactor for his research.
In this video he runs through how he's used our equipment, and more about how Imperial is making strides to improve sustainability in their labs.
Their main are of research is photocatalytic carbonylation reactions. But using cobalt catalysis they avoid using rare earth metals for their research. This saves cost and improves sustainability.
The Illumiin8 help them make the research more repeatable with its uniformed irradiation allowing them to better study the kinetics. In terms of irradiation they've been working with both blue and UV-A light.
Imperial has been working towards LEAF certification to help their research develop sustainably, while also reducing the use of chemicals where possible, and sharing any excess. Working with photochemistry to drive reactions, rather than heat, has also improved their sustainability by using greener solvents and earth abundant catalysts, and less energy.
