What is GST Registration?
GST (Goods and Services Tax) Registration is the process by which a business or individual becomes recognized as a taxable entity under the government's tax system. Once registered, the business is assigned a unique 15-digit GST Identification Number (GSTIN).
E-commerce Sellers: If you sell products through platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, or your own website.
This registration is the "entry pass" into the formal economy, allowing you to legally collect tax from customers and pass on the credit for taxes paid on your own purchases.
Who Needs to Register?
Not every small shop or freelancer needs a GSTIN. Generally, you fall into the net if you meet any of the following criteria:
Turnover Threshold: Most businesses providing services with an annual turnover exceeding ₹20 Lakhs, or businesses selling goods exceeding ₹40 Lakhs (limits vary by state/region).
Inter-state Traders: If you sell goods or services from one state to another, registration is usually mandatory regardless of turnover.
Casual Taxable Persons: Individuals who occasionally undertake transactions involving the supply of goods or services in a territory where they have no fixed place of business.
