/ thegunviking • Test of subsonic rimfire ammunition • Bergara B14R ammo tests • Test of Fiocchi .22lr ammo Fiocchi ammo is normally produced in Italy. So imagine my surprise when I picked up a box of Fiocchi 38gr Subsonic HP that clearly stated:
Made in Mexico.
That immediately raises an interesting question.
👉 Is this Fiocchi…👉 or is this Aguila in disguise?
🔧 Test Setup
Ammo: Fiocchi .22LR 38gr Subsonic HP
Rifle: Bergara B14R
Optic: Meopta Optika6 5–30×56
Paper targets: 50 yards
Steel & reactive targets: 100 yards
Conditions: Calm, minimal wind
Support: Solid bench setup
This is a direct comparison under nearly identical conditions to my previous Aguila tests.
🎯 50 Yards – Accuracy Results
At 50 yards, the difference was immediately noticeable.
Groups were tight and consistent —on a completely different level compared to the 38gr Aguila Subsonic I’ve tested before.
If this is Aguila-produced ammo, then this is a very good lot, because the precision tells a very different story.
🔭 100 Yards – Practical Shooting
At 100 yards, expectations were realistic.
Hits were possible, but not easy.I managed one confirmed hit, which is exactly what I’d expect given the ballistic limitations of a 38gr subsonic HP.
No miracles here —but the behavior was predictable, and that matters.
🧠 So What’s Going On?
Is this rebranded Aguila?
Maybe.Maybe not.
What is clear is that:
This Fiocchi lot behaves nothing like the Aguila 38gr subsonic I’ve tested
Precision at 50 yards is clearly superior
Consistency is good, even if long-range performance is limited by physics
⚠️ Final Verdict
Is this match ammo?❌ No.
Is it surprisingly accurate at 50 yards?✅ Absolutely.
Is it better than the Aguila 38gr Subsonic I tested earlier?✅ Without question.
Whether this is Fiocchi, Aguila, or some Mexican magic —this lot performs.
