Castlevania: The Adventure (Game Boy Color) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

Описание: A playthrough of Konami's colorized remake of the 1989 action-platform game, Castlevania: The Adventure. It was released as part of the Konami GB Collection Vol. 1 compilation cart for the Game Boy Color in 1999.

With its upcoming rerelease in Konami's Castlevania Anniversary Collection, I thought that it would be cool to show off this little-known updated version of the original Castlevania Game Boy game. The color version never came out in America, so this video was recorded from the European release.

Castlevania: The Adventure is a first generation Game Boy title and it shows - the game moves slowly, the level design is simpler than it was in the NES games, and it's very short, but that doesn't hold it back from being good. It's clearly dated, even in its colorized form, but it still makes for a brilliant, nostalgic stroll through a piece of Castlevania's long history. Don't be deceived by its simplicity and its speed, though - it becomes pretty sadistic with its difficulty level toward the end.

I really like the upgraded graphics for this release. The color suits it well, and the GBC's screen is far less prone to image smearing, making the whole thing far nicer to play than it was on the original GB's monochrome LCD panel. They did a fair amount more than merely reassign palettes to each screen - in fact, you can see the evidence of the changes in the "mask" layer that's visible for a split-second during screen transitions. The addition of color makes it a substantial improvement over what you would see if you plugged the original game into a Super Game Boy, and it makes it the overall superior way to plat the game.

I don't know which version of the game will be included in the Castlevania Anniversary Collection (though I would guess that it will include the original game and not this colorized update), but it is a cool novelty piece that I think many people are probably not familiar with. Either way, though, it's a cool game with a killer soundtrack that any real Castlevania fan should make a point of checking out for themselves.
