Описание: Tobago House of Assembly Chief Secretary Farley Augustine says he understands the anxiety being felt across the island as challenges continue with the Blue Wave Harmony.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Mr Augustine reminded Tobagonians that the vessel remains in its sea trial phase and said the Assembly intends to hold the Government to its 1 March deadline for the vessel’s full commercial operationalisation.

Chief Secretary Farley Augustine has thanked Tobagonians for the patience being shown as challenges surrounding the Blue Wave Harmony continue during its sea trials. Mr Augustine acknowledged that the issue is a critical one and said he understands the growing concern among residents.

Mr Augustine reflected on 2017, noting that this is not the first time challenges have arisen during the transition process for a cargo vessel. He admitted that in 2017 he also ran out of patience as the government sought to procure a new vessel.

He acknowledged that businesses are feeling the impact of the ongoing issues, adding that the THA’s Studley Park Quarry has also been affected. However, he shared that the Blue Wave Harmony docked at the Port of Scarborough on Sunday without incident.

The THA Chief Secretary said the Assembly is holding the Government to the information outlined in a release from the Port Authority, which indicated that the Blue Wave Harmony will be fully operationalised from 1 March.

Mr Augustine also noted that the THA sought clarification on the vessel’s safety from Minister of Works Jearlean John, who provided information via email.

The Chief Secretary also committed to joining truckers on one of the vessel’s upcoming voyages.
