Join Allan and Erin for an unforgettable weekend adventure in North Central Florida! 🌴🚣♂️ This trip takes us to Fort McCoy for primitive camping at Gores Landing along the beautiful Ocklawaha River, complete with a rare late-night setup and chilly February vibes.
We kick things off with tropical drinks in Ocala before diving into an epic kayaking journey on the Silver River—paddling upstream to the head springs and floating back while spotting incredible wildlife. From playful otters and curious manatees to over 50 alligators and even wild rhesus monkeys (yes, really!), this river never disappoints.
Along the way, we explore the history of Silver Springs—Florida’s original tourist attraction—and learn how these invasive monkeys ended up here. After a full day on the water, we check out Fort King National Historic Landmark, enjoy some of the best BBQ in Florida, and wrap up the night with live music and drinks.
The adventure continues with a visit to the rare exposed forest of Lake Ocklawaha (Rodman Reservoir) during a drawdown—an incredible chance to kayak through a landscape normally hidden underwater.
📍 Highlights include:
Primitive camping at Gores Landing
Kayaking the Silver & Ocklawaha Rivers
Tons of wildlife sightings (alligators, monkeys, manatees & more!)
Fort King exploration & local eats
Rare paddling through a submerged forest
If you love kayaking, camping, wildlife, and hidden Florida gems, this is a trip you don’t want to miss!
