KNAC will be celebrating it's 40th Anniversary of the "Pure Rock" format with two special events.

KLBP/Long Beach Public Radio will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the legendary Long Beach heavy metal station "Pure Rock" 105.5 KNAC with a takeover on Monday, January 5th, 2026 from 12:01a.m. to 9p.m. Listeners will hear full "blocks” of KNAC programming from 1986 to 1995 shows, topped off with a live broadcast in the heart of downtown Long Beach hosted by legendary KNAC jock Thrasher.

Included in the broadcast are recordings of some KNAC's outstanding DJs: Thrasher, Tawn Mastrey, Gregg Steele, Sam Freeze, Scrotchin' Scotty, Nasty Neil, Long Paul, Laurie Free, Jack Trash, “the animal” Ana Lee, Gonzo Greg, Dangerous Darren and more.

Included is the last two hours of KNAC from February of 1995, with guest appearances from James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich of Metallica.

The live reunion broadcast will take place right next door to KLBP at the Secret Island Tiki Bar from 7 p.m. to 9p.m.. At 9p.m. KLBP's metal show "GenX Rock Hidden Treasures” with DJ Hollywood will close out this pure rock event.
