In Episode 1 of the Environment and Ecology series for UPSC Prelims 2026, Mr. Vaibhav Shivhare, Faculty at Drishti IAS, explains one of the most important and high-yield topics — Trophic Levels and Energy Flow in an Ecosystem. Based on Previous Year Question (PYQ) analysis, this topic has been repeatedly asked in UPSC Prelims (notably in 2011, 2013, and 2017), making it extremely important for exam preparation. The lecture clearly covers the structure and function of an ecosystem, biotic and abiotic interactions, the concept of food chain, trophic levels, and the unidirectional flow of energy.
