A decent ride, worth the money?
Let’s preface this particular review with the fact that we know we come into some of these reviews with biases. We do our best to leave those behind and start blank slate with every board, but the fact of the matter is we’ve been riding boards for a long time and we definitely have our own acquired tastes and opinions about certain types of board constructions and features.
Fans of Magnetraction boards will like this board. We’ve ridden a few boards with this design feature this year and the TRS Pro definitely had the most aggressive feeling contact point profile - we both felt it during turns on varied types of terrain and snow. Some people like that, but for us not our cup of tea. I think the idea of this tech is more appealing to less advanced riders, those who are less confident committing to their carves and applying pressure to the edges. That’s not to say more advanced riders won’t enjoy this board, we just felt it was less refined than other boards we have tested that are geared towards the same kind of all mountain freestyle riding.
Moving on from the edge profiles, this board did perform well all around the mountain. It was easy to just jump on and ride, and the C2X camber profile (camber under the feet with rocker between) handled terrain features well and kept the contact points on the snow. It loaded and unloaded nicely for ollies, and generally had a solid feel to it. You definitely can’t knock Mervin made boards for build quality and underfoot feel, it felt like a really well made board.
Overall feeling: If you like magnetraction or feel you need a board that prioritizes edge grab over smooth/fluid carves this is probably worth checking out. If magnetraction has put you off in the past this is probably not for you. Other than that, a well built board that will take it to the mountain (and carve a roast).
