I Caught A Marlin Jigging In 1000 Feet! | Jigging | Hawaii Kayak Fishing

Описание: What an exciting day back on the water after a month and a half of no fishing! The weather was looking nice so I had planned to go do some slow pitch jigging in deep water. I wanted to pick up some Opelu in the morning to troll around while on my way to the spot because I like to have one bait out at all times, even when I'm jigging. This way I can cover the top, middle, and bottom to maximize my chances of catching something. The bait was biting great in the morning so I stocked up and quickly moved out into deeper water. I found some nice contours in the deep which I decided to drop on. Surprisingly enough, on my first drop, I hooked into something 1100 feet down. I was really hoping for Onaga which is one of the most prized species in our waters. Well, unfortunately, I didn't see that bright crimson/ruby red that I was hoping to see once the fish came up. Shortly after landing the fish, I repositioned and dropped again. My jig made it about 600 feet down when my top line got hit. I set the hook and soon enough the line started peeling and off in the distance a Marlin was jumping out of the water. I had planned to release this fish, as it was way more than I needed and I had caught a Marlin once before, but unfortunately he used up all his strength during the fight and wasn't strong enough to swim away. He fed a lot of people so nothing went to waste. On my way in I hooked into a hammerhead shark which notoriously fight much different than any other shark species which makes them easy to confuse for a nice pelagic fish. After my excursion I went home, cleaned the fish, and put it in a marinade to get ready to throw on the smoker.
