Teraya Sigler Makes Immediate Impact for Nebraska Volleyball as True Freshman

Описание: LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska volleyball is no stranger to reloading, whether through transfers or freshmen ready to contribute from day one. This fall, one of the brightest early storylines belongs to true freshman Teraya Sigler.

Sigler, the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit out of Horizon High School in Arizona, started Nebraska’s opening weekend matches against No. 3 Pittsburgh and No. 6 Stanford. A two-time Gatorade Arizona Player of the Year and a gold medalist with the U.S. U21 and U19 national teams, she entered Lincoln with a decorated resume and quickly found herself on the court under the sport’s brightest lights.

“The first five points I was kind of like, ‘Where am I? What am I doing?’” Sigler said. “Then my teammates reminded me we’re just playing volleyball. It’s just a big game in a big arena with a lot of people.”

Sigler, typically an outside hitter, has been adjusting to a new role to fit Nebraska’s lineup needs. She notched one kill against both Pittsburgh and Stanford, and added a service ace against the Cardinal. While her stat line was modest, her energy and composure drew praise from coaches and teammates alike.

“I love to help this team however they need me,” Sigler said. “I see it as an opportunity to prove myself and be the best I possibly can in that position.”

Nebraska has leaned on freshmen before — setter Bergen Reilly started last year en route to All-America honors, while Harper Murray and Andi Jackson each made early impacts. Sigler now joins that list, showing confidence that belies her age.

For coach Dani Busboom Kelly, Sigler’s presence on the court has already made a difference. “Her energy was so much fun,” Busboom Kelly said. “Whether she’s in the game or coming off for a rotation, she brings the same perspective and vibes.”

With her debut behind her, Sigler appears poised to grow into her role as the season continues. In front of more than 16,000 fans at Pinnacle Bank Arena, she showed the nerves didn’t last long.

She’s used to the spotlight, and Nebraska believes she’s ready to shine in it again.
